The Jean Short Party (JSP) began on July 18, 2010, as a birthday celebration for Dave Thomas at a club in Royal Oak, MI. Known for his quirky personality, Dave had a unique request: everyone had to wear cut-off denim shorts. With live music and all his friends in attendance, the event quickly became a beloved tradition for everyone who knew him.
In 2015, Dave lost his battle with mental illness, leaving a profound impact on his community. To honor his memory, Dave’s friends decided to continue the annual party, transforming it into a fundraiser for Suck It! Suicide, an organization that holds deep meaning for those who loved him. Now, each year, JSP not only celebrates Dave’s life and spirit but also raises awareness and support for suicide prevention.
JSP 2026 will mark the 11th Jean Short Party since we lost Dave. We are proud to say that the event has grown each year, raising over $100K since 2016 for Suck It! Suicide.
